Often used as a quick establishment grass to help
control erosion and provide quick greenup until other grass species in the mix
get established. Often used for banks and areas of soil disturbance
activity or newly seeded lawns. Will establish a sod faster than most other
grasses. Is an annual and will grow for one season only. Once a
seedhead is formed, plant quality and yield will diminish. Can also be sown
for a quick growing pasture. However, it is recommended to use an improved
forage variety of annual ryegrass or a perennial ryegrass instead of the common
variety of annual ryegrass for this purpose.
Seeding rate – 3-5 lbs/1,000 sq ft for new
lawns. Use lower rate when seeding in a mix with other turf grasses.
For pasture, 20-30 lbs/acre.
