Augusta Co-Op Vendor Night

Augusta Co-Op completed their annual Vendor Night event at the Augusta County Fairgrounds at Augusta Expoland on August 11th.

Don't forget to pick up your booked items by August 31st or when available from the store.

Thank you for your business and loyal patronage!  Thanks to all who helped with registration, orders, setup, cleanup and any other help with the event!

Thank you to the vendors that participated in the event!

Weed Control Twilight Meeting

Demonstration plots were established to evaluate newer weed control options.   Meeting Participants learned about these newer weed control options that give more flexibility in application.  Since some of these products have residual control - they can be applied at times of the year more convenient for the forage producer and provide weed control in the spring and for up to 3 years.

Products evaluated included Grazon P&D, Forefront, Chaparral, PastureGard, and 2,4-D plus Banvel.  Results of control were:

Chaparral                           90% control

Forefront                       80-90% control

Grazon P&D                   70-80% control

PastureGard                  30-65% control (no residual)

2,4-D plus Banvel          30-60% control (no residual)

Talk to your field representative about these results!

Purina SPCA Adopt-A-Pet Day

Woof-Woof!Meow-Meow! Special Greetings and Approval from the Augusta Regional SPCA animal friends that visited the Staunton store on July 24th.  A fun day was had by all as the animals greeted customers and made new friends!

Consider adopting your next pet from Augusta Regional SPCA!  Support the low cost spay/neuter clinic that will be available soon to help reduce the unwanted pet population.

A special thank you goes to Purina and KCY 104.3 for their assistance with this event!

Teff Educational Meeting

A meeting was held recently at Hunter Ridge Farm that focused on the production of Teff grass.  Teff is a recently introduced forage species to the state of Virginia and is currently being harvested primarily as a hay for the horse market.  There is also interest in grazing Teff as a summer annual.

Extension personnel were on hand along with co-op field staff members to discuss the challenges and opportunities that are present when growing Teff in this area.  For more information on growing Teff, contact your co-op field representative or your local Virginia Cooperative Extension Service office.

Thanks to Hunter Ridge Farm, owned by co-op customers Joe Shomo and Sam Leonard for hosting this event!
